Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas won the National Championship in the 500 meter event over the weekend. Beating her opponent by nearly 2 seconds, Thomas becomes the first Transgender athlete to win a Division One Title. According to ESPN, "Fans were noticeably quiet when Thomas was introduced." Thomas has been the poster child for controversy, after competing as a male for years before identifying as a woman.
