Week 1 has come and gone.
Last week, I was able to predict 7 games correctly, and 9 wrong. Thanks Indianapolis and Houston for ending in a tie, like I was ever going to guess that correctly.
Some were upset with me last week that I didn't include score predictions in the predictions, but with how wacky the first week of the season was, there's no way I'm going to start now. Hopefully, I have better luck this week than the kickers had doing their jobs last week.
Thursday Night Football: Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert put on 2 of the best displays at quarterback last week, and this week sure seems to be much of the same. Chiefs put a hurt on the Cardinals in week 1, and I wouldn't be surprised if they keep the offense at full throttle against a divisional opponent at home. Chargers are missing a key player in Kennan Allen. Tip the scales to Kansas. WINNER: Chiefs
Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens
Miami put together a solid win in Week 1. The talent on the offensive side is evident, but they travel to Baltimore where the Ravens have their own high end talent. Baltimore played the Jets, which is more of a gift than a challenging opponent. This is a great litmus test for both teams. Who do I like? Quoth the writer; Nevermore. WINNER: Ravens
New York Jets at Cleveland Browns
There's not really much reason to watch this game unless you are a fan of either team. If you are a fan, I send my pity. Home team wins. WINNER: Browns
Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions
Everything I said about the last matchup? Copy and Paste. Although, there's more talent in this game than the last. Detroit look like a decent team, and play with a vigor that's at least entertaining. Scrappy, Hungry, and winners this week. WINNER: Lions
Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars
Last year, the Colts lost during the last week of season to the Jaguars, costing them a playoff berth. Jacksonville fans wore clown attire to protest the direction of the team, and ended the day with one of the best visuals of the season, as they upset Indy. The Colts tied last week against Houston, another divisional opponent. Could you imagine if it happened again this week? WINNER: Rooting for a tie, Colts
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints
New Orleans pulled out the last second winner against Atlanta last week, as they welcomed Michael Thomas back from injury that sidelined him for a year. Tampa Bay looked, as expected?, against a woeful Dallas team. Tampa needs offensive line help. The Saints have had Tampa's number recently. I think the trend continues this week. WINNER: Saints
Carolina Panthers at New York Giants
This is a tale of two teams who are on the rebuilding route, yet going completely opposite directions. Carolina is trying to resurect Baker Mayfield's career and become competitive with a coach that couldn't inspire me to get out of bed, let alone play a football game. New York has a coach who fired up the locker room, and a similar talent level to Carolina. I'm reminded of my friend Johnny D, who says in sports, you have to have the intangibles. Giants have them now. WINNER: Giants
New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Patriots looked lazy, gross, and unkempt last week, like a bar patron whose had a little too much Sam Adams. Pittsburgh's defense had the best performance in week 1, but lose a key cog in the steel wall, as TJ Watt may have torn a pectoral muscle. Pitt should win, but has a nasty habit of playing down to opponents. This could be closer than it should. WINNER: Steelers
Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams
The Rams were schooled by the Bills in the season opening game. They turned the ball over 3 times, failed to capitalize on key opportunities, and were beat as such by a top team. Atlanta is NOT a top team. If Matthew Stafford and company fail to get into the win column this week, it could unravel one of the preseason favorite's entire year. WINNER: Rams
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers
No Russell Wilson, No Problem. Seattle played with vigor against their former quarterback on Monday Night Football. They weren't the well oiled machine of years past, but they looked stout. The 49ers, did not. All the eyes were on Trey Lance as he took over starting duties. He did not have a great game, but I don't think anyone would in the conditions at Soldier Field last Sunday. The field was so wet, Moses himself couldn't part this sea. Their defense didn't help the cause, gifting the Bears over 100 yards in penalties. I expect San Francisco to right the ship. WINNER: 49ers
Cincinnati Bengals at Dallas Cowboys
The Bengals looked awful for 3 quarters against Pittsburgh, and still took them to the last play of overtime before losing. Dallas looked awful for 4 quarters, and lost their top quarterback Dak Prescott with a broken hand. Not hard to pick this one. WINNER: Bengals
Houston Texans at Denver Broncos
I cant really get a read on Houston, they looked good then bad. Hot then cold. What team shows up this week? Russell Wilson and the Broncos lost a close game in Seattle. I dont think they lose 2 weeks in a row, as long as they can overcome some questionable coaching decisions that cost them on Monday. WINNER: Broncos
Arizona Cardinals at Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders turned the ball over way too much against the Chargers week 1. When they stopped handing the ball over to the other team, their new toy Davante Adams looked like a game changer. Arizona couldn't muster much against the Chiefs, but the Raiders defense is easier to score against. Should be an entertaining game. WINNER: Raiders
Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers
Chicago looked terrible for 3 quarters against San Francisco. By the grace of the rain gods and referee flags, they pulled out a win. Green Bay looked lost against the Vikings on both sides of the ball. Aaron Rodgers doesn't like losing to Chicago, considering he hasn't done much of it in his career. Rodgers makes Chicago pay for the sins of last week. WINNER: Packers
Monday Night Football: Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills
Buffalo in a landslide. At home after 10 days rest, versus a Titans team who lost a demoralizing game against New York. Josh Allen is THAT DUDE. He will dice up the Titans like a monster from Homer's Epics. WINNER: Bills
Monday Night Football: Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles
Minnesota's Justin Jefferson reminds me of one Randy Moss of yesteryear. Almost 200 yards and 2 touchdowns to smoke a division rival on opening day. Kirk Cousins delivered the ball with pace, and made little to no mistakes. Philly beat a Lions team that made it close, but they still scored the 2nd most points of the week. This is my game to watch this week. WINNER: Vikings
