21-year-old skier died while trying to attempt an extremely dangerous stunt. The Grand County Sheriff's Office said they received a 911 call on Tuesday (April 9) about a skiing accident on Highway 40 near Berthoud Pass Summit.

When officers arrived, they found the man, later identified by the Grand County Coroner's Office as Dallas LeBeau, unconscious and not breathing on the roadway as a bystander was performing CPR. Paramedics took over and tried to revive LeBeau, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office said that LeBeau attempted to jump over the highway but "lacked the necessary speed and distance and subsequently landed on the highway pavement."

He was wearing a helmet and other protective gear at the time.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are awaiting the results of the autopsy report to determine his cause of death.

LeBeau was an experienced skier and competed in four qualifying events for the Freeride World Tour this year.
