NYPD divers are searching the waters of Central Park for the gun used in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, a law enforcement source told CNN. Thompson, 50, was shot early Wednesday (December 4) near a Midtown Manhattan hotel. The suspect, described as a light-skinned male, was seen fleeing the scene on a bike and later entering Central Park, where he discarded a distinctive gray backpack.

Authorities have recovered the backpack, which is now being processed for evidence. The NYPD has deployed drones, helicopters, and K-9 units in their search for the suspect, who is believed to have left New York City. Surveillance footage shows the suspect arriving in the city by bus from Washington, D.C., and staying at a hostel on the Upper West Side.

The investigation has expanded nationwide, with the FBI assisting in the manhunt. Police have collected DNA samples from items found at the scene, including a water bottle and a cell phone, which are being tested for potential matches.

The NYPD is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest. As the search continues, authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could help identify and locate the gunman.
