Krystena Murray, a 38-year-old woman from Savannah, Georgia, is suing Coastal Fertility Specialists after discovering she gave birth to another couple's baby. In May 2023, Murray underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) at the clinic, hoping to conceive a child using a sperm donor. However, she unknowingly carried and delivered a baby boy who was not biologically hers.

The mix-up became apparent when Murray, who is white, gave birth to a Black baby in December 2023. Despite the shocking discovery, Murray bonded with the child and raised him for several months. She later confirmed the lack of biological relation through a DNA test in January 2024. Upon notifying the clinic, the biological parents were identified and sued for custody, which led Murray to voluntarily give up the baby in May 2024.

Murray's lawsuit accuses the clinic of negligence and seeks damages. She expressed her emotional turmoil, stating, "I have never felt so violated, and the situation has left me emotionally and physically broken." Her attorney, Adam Wolf, emphasized the rarity of such IVF mix-ups and the life-altering consequences they bring.

Coastal Fertility Specialists acknowledged the error, describing it as an isolated event, and has since implemented additional safeguards to prevent future incidents. The clinic operates in Georgia and South Carolina.
